ISSUE:
I need to be able to change the port used by Eudora for incoming mail, or
outgoing mail, or directory services, etc.
SOLUTION (WINDOWS):
First, look for a file in the Windows directory called "services" and open it
with Notepad
On an XP Windows machine, you will find it at
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc,
or at
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Look for the appropriate line for what you are trying to change. It will look
something like this:
smtp 25/tcp mail #Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
********change to 587 *******************
OR
pop3 110/tcp postoffice
Change the port number to the desired value then save the change to the file and
exit Notepad. If the service you are trying to modify is not contained in the
services file, no change to it is necessary.
Next, look in the Eudora directory for the directory "extrastuff". In this
directory is a file named "esoteric.epi". Drag this file into the main Eudora
directory. Start up Eudora, go to Tools: Options: Ports, and change the ports
here.
SOLUTION (MACINTOSH):
Quit Eudora and look in the Eudora Application Folder for the folder "Extras".
In this folder is a file "Esoteric Settings". Drag this file into the "Eudora
Stuff" folder, then launch Eudora. Go to Special: Settings: Ports & Protocols:
and change the ports here.
